The Lunar New Year is one of the largest celebrations in Chinese culture. On the 9th February, Aotea Gifts and Real Journeys brought a well-known Auckland dance troupe to perform a traditional lion dance on Earnslaw Park. The lion dance combines art, history and kung fu, and symbolises new beginnings, good luck and prosperity. There were four shows, drawing in crowds of locals and visitors. Queenstown Primary School attended the shows in classes, and participated in the lion dances by catching lucky mandarins thrown by the lions, and following the lions as they paraded around the park.
